Firewire Sweet Potato Surfboard - TimberTek Technology (RF) - 5'4"

The Firewire Sweet Potato dramatically changes the ratio between the length and width of a board while still allowing the design to perform at a very high level. Designer Dan Mann explains, ÌÝ?The aggressive bottom contour creates considerable lift and the deep double concave with a ÌÝÌáspineó» down the middle divide the board in half (length-wise) isolating the fins, rocker and bottom on one side of the board at a time. This allows the board to get on a rail quickly. The Sweet Potato is the board you should always bring on a surf check, and you'll find yourself ripping on small days where you'd otherwise go homeó?.

The Firewire Sweet Potato is the surfboard that we'd rather keep a secret, that magic board that'll put your wave count through the roof even when the waves are small and junky. The 'buzz' surrounding this funky little board has been unprecedented, at last a board designed to rip in the smallest conditions when normally you'd head home and leave it to the longboards! The Sweet Potato is your 'go-to' board when the surf is knee to head high!

ÌÝ?Clearly the Sweet Potato is not your average surfboard." says designer Dan Mann, ÌÝ?The outline is the most striking design change from the status quo. The Sweet Potato dramatically changes the ratio between the length and width of a board while still allowing the design to perform at a very high level. While the relationship of the outline and volume obviously have a big impact, without the big changes in the rocker, bottom contour, fin placement, and the flex characteristics of the stronger and lighter materials, the Sweet Potato would have limited performance as has been the case with these designs in the pastó?.

You should ride this board about 10-12 inches shorter than your standard performance shortboard to get about the same flotation in the Sweet Potato.

TIMBERTEK represents a significant step forward towards the holy grail of any product designed and manufactured in today's environmentally conscious world. While by no means sustainably built, Firewire's TIMBERTEK has by far one of the least toxic and smallest carbon footprints of any commercially available surfboard today.

Grant Newby, a talented Australian craftsman first turned us on to the potential of this construction, and following his lead, our internal R&D and production crew worked tirelessly to make this tech possible in a production setting. Building one-offs or small quantities is one thing (and not to be discounted), but it took a tremendous effort to overcome all the issues that arose as we tweaked the original recipe to increase performance and build reasonable quantities. Of course having our own vertical factory was a huge help.

The combination of a lightweight EPS core, sustainably-grown wood deck skins, Firewire's proprietary parabolic rail construction, and anEntropy bio-resin hot coat yield an extremely lightweight, durable surfboard with ALL of the high performance flex characteristics of Firewire's existing technologies. Even more impressive, the physical properties of the raw materials involved have allowed us to reduce exterior lamination significantly, furthering the reduction of the boardó»s carbon footprint. Or as we like to describe TIMBERTEK, it's simply High Performance Art.
